Upload main image here: ![]() Marc Bircham in action against MK Dons ![]() ![]() | I just want to make it clear that contrary to reports I haven´t retired yet! I´ve got another avenue that I´m looking into at the moment so hopefully I can play on. My ankle is the main problem. I went to see the top ankle specialist in the country and he told me I needed surgery. The problem is if I get it done there´s a chance I won´t be able to come back and play at the same level I´m at now. I´ve got some nerve damage as well, which complicates things as it can´t be operated on. But as long as there´s still hope I´ll keep trying to play. If I am forced to retire I couldn´t call it a day on football completely. My brother´s got a Sunday side and I´d love to turn out for them, even if it´s only in goal. I feel fit and can run about but my left ankle can´t keep up. I can´t pass or even control the ball with it as things stand. Every time I touch the ball with my left foot it feels like I´m turning my ankle. It´s really frustrating. I´ve tried to come back three or four times now and the rehab doesn´t get any easier. But if I think there´s a good chance of me getting back to full fitness I´m happy to put the work in. I´ll be making a decision on what to do in the next couple of weeks so I´ll be back soon with more news one way or another… ![]() ![]() ![]() |
